In this 4 hour class Brad will lead us through the basics of leather tooling, show the students a few tips-and-tricks of the trade, and help everyone finish a hand-tooled set coaster from vegetable tanned leather (image shown to the left). You will then be able to take home three more coasters and finish them on your own. Each student will finish at least one coaster by the end of class.
This is a very limited seat class and we are proud to host the very talented and experienced Brad Cooper. Keep reading as we boast our special guest!
Brad Cooper began working leather at age 12 and started his apprenticeship in saddlery with Wendy Allen during his sophomore year in high school. After learning the cutting saddle trade Cooper began making saddles for other disciplines including roping, reining and barrel racing. Cooper is credited with having built over 600 saddles and has recently set up his shop in Buellton (900 McMurray Rd. Unit 1 Buellton, CA 93427).
Featured Work: Brads leather work has been featured in the Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal ( May/June Vol. 22 ) and Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine (cover article December 2001 ). The pics below were hand tooled by Brad and are a great example of what can be achieved with the skills you'll learn in this class.
